Routing & your vehicle

Radar plans routes and can navigate you there turn by turn. Basic routing is free; routing that understands your vehicle's size is a Premium feature.

Basic routing is free

Plain A-to-B routing, with turn-by-turn directions, is free and works without an account.

  • Set the start, destination, and any stops by tapping the map, typing a postcode, or picking a saved place. Start typing a name and Radar suggests your matching saved places, so any spot you have saved is a tap away, not just Home and Work (which stay pinned for quick access).
  • Add up to 8 stops. From any place's popup, choose Add as stop and the route replans automatically.
  • See the elevation and gradient of the route on an inline chart, with steep sections tinted on the map.
  • The route panel can be dragged out of the way if it sits over part of your route, and closed with the × in its corner.
note

Route planning covers Great Britain only. Searching for places works worldwide, but Radar can only plan a route within GB.

The vehicle profile (Premium)

You can save your vehicle's details on the Vehicle tab at any time, for free, and they are kept for you. What is Premium is Radar actually using those dimensions to shape a route.

With Premium, once your profile is set Radar will:

  • Route around low bridges and weight, width, and length limits that would stop your van.
  • Check whether you fit at parking and overnight stops, showing a fit badge on each.
  • Avoid gradients steeper than your set ceiling (default 20%), with a "show steep route anyway" override per trip.
  • Show you the hazards and steep sections it detoured around, so you understand the route.

Without Premium you get a standard car route instead. Your saved dimensions are never applied to a free route, so a free route is never quietly treated as van-safe.

Fuel type and economy stay free. The fuel type and average mpg on your profile are always used, Premium or not, because they drive fuel-cost estimates and which fuel prices are shown, and UK fuel data is free.

Services along the route

Once a route is planned, you can bring up fuel, food, toilets, and other services scoped to the route itself, so you can plan a stop without leaving the plan. Pick the kinds of service you want and show them on the route, refresh them, or remove them again when you are done. Fuel prices for your fuel type are painted onto the route, and the cheapest station on the way is highlighted.

Tap any service for its details. A fuel stop lists all of its prices, and you can add it to your route as a stop from there.

See Accounts & Premium for how Premium works (it is currently invite-only).
